Best Ice Cream in the City?

Mitchell's Ice Cream
688 San Jose Avenue at 29th Street

This old fashioned ice cream parlor in the Mission has been San Francisco's essential stop for homemade ice cream since 1943. The shop is still in the Mitchell family, and it still brings in crowds, young and old and from all ethnic groups, to sample their unusual flavors.

Many of the concoctions have a Mexican influence, from the luscious mango to the maize y queso (corn and cheese), which tastes vaguely like candy corn. All the choices are made fresh every day, and flavors change with the seasons.
